The same week, Amazon — which had already put $8 billion into Anthropic — committed another $5 billion, with up to $20 billion more on the table.
That's potentially $68 billion flowing into a single AI company from just two tech giants. To put that in context, that's more than the GDP of half the countries on Earth.
And that's only one of the stories. Anthropic's new Mythos model is setting off global alarms. A neuromorphic chip promises to cut AI energy consumption by 70%. The US Department of Justice just joined Elon Musk's xAI in suing to block Colorado's AI discrimination law. OpenAI launched GPT-5.5, calling it their "smartest and most intuitive" model.
This isn't a normal week. This is a phase transition.
The New AI Power Structure

The Neuromorphic Dark Horse
While everyone was watching the Anthropic money flow, a potentially more important story got less attention: researchers have built a brain-like chip that could slash AI energy use by 70%.
This matters more than most people realize. Right now, the biggest constraint on AI isn't algorithms or data — it's energy. Training and running frontier models consumes staggering amounts of electricity. OpenAI, Google, and Meta are all building their own power infrastructure. SpaceX, which just filed for its IPO, is even designing its own GPUs because chip supply and energy costs are existential concerns.

And with federal AI regulation essentially dead under the current administration, that leaves the US with no meaningful guardrails on AI deployment.
For builders, this creates a paradox. On one hand, less regulation means faster deployment and fewer compliance costs. On the other hand, it means operating in an environment where a single high-profile AI discrimination scandal could trigger a regulatory backlash that makes Colorado's law look permissive by comparison.
My advice: build as if regulation is coming, even if it isn't today. Document your testing for bias. Maintain audit trails. Design for transparency. The companies that do this now will be ahead when regulation inevitably catches up — and they'll also build better products in the process.
The Free Ride Is Over

They'll be the ones who understand the new power structure, build defensible positions within it, and create genuine value for specific users with specific problems.
